Dr. Aaron Altenburg was born and raised in Oregon. He attended Willamette University in Salem Oregon, and received a bachelor’s degree in biology and chemistry, graduating with various distinctive awards. He received his MD degree from Oregon Health Sciences University in Portland, Oregon, graduating magna cum laude. In 2002-2007 he performed his Orthopedic Surgical Residency at University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics.
From 2007-2008, he performed a fellowship in adult lower extremity reconstruction at the distinguished Mayo Clinic in Rochester Minnesota. He was the recipient of the Coventry Distinguished Fellow Award and worked with the top joint replacement surgeons in the country
Dr. Altenburg is a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons as well as the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons. He has lived in Pocatello since 2008 where he has had a private orthopedic practice and currently is a partner at OrthoIdaho. His orthopedic focus is on the treatment of first hip and knee replacements as well as the treatment of infection and complex hip and knee revision replacement surgeries.
Dr. Altenburg is also well known among his peers and travels the across the US and even the world teaching about different surgical techniques and surgery efficiencies. Recently he has traveled to Thailand, New Zealand and Switzerland where he was able to perform real time surgeries for hundreds of other orthopedic surgeons to observe.

Dr. Benjamin Blair was born and raised in New York. In 1987, he received his BS degree in Biomedical Education from Union College, Schenectady, NY. In 1989, he received his M.D. Degree from Albany Medical College, Albany, New York; Summa Cum Laude, Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society.
Dr. Blair completed his surgical internship from 1989-1990 at New York University Medical Center, New York, New York. He completed his orthopedic residency at the Hospital for Joint Diseases, New York, New York from 1990-1996. He completed his spine surgical fellowship in 1996 at the University of California, San Diego, California.
Dr. Blair is board certified in orthopaedic surgery. He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the North American Spine Society, and the American Medical Association. He is also a member of the Idaho Medical Association, the Idaho Orthopaedic Society, and the Southeastern Idaho Medical Society. Dr. Blair is married and has two children. Dr. Jeffrey Bray was born and raised in Southern Idaho. He received his BS degree in Psychology from Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. He received his Doctor of Podiatric Medicine from the California College of Podiatric Medicine in 1996 in San Francisco.
Dr. Bray completed a podiatric surgical residency in 1998 in Detroit, Michigan. Dr. Bray was in private practice for 7 years before joining Pocatello Orthopaedics in June of 2005.
Dr. Bray is a member of the Idaho Podiatric Medical Association and the American Podiatric Medical Association. He is Board Certified in Foot Surgery by the American Board of Podiatric Surgery and is a Diplomate of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons. Dr. Tony Joseph is certified in sports medicine and family practice since 1990. He has sports medicine experience at the high school, college and professional levels, and has been the team physician for Idaho State University for 18 years.
Dr. Joseph is the only member of the American Medical Society of Sports Medicine currently practicing in Southeast Idaho. Dr. Joseph’s goal is to return patients with sports injuries to play as soon as possible. He will offer services to patients who have minor sprains, strains, or fractures. He offers spine care, epidural injections, treatment for asthma, heart conditions and other problems unique to athletes. Dr. Richard Wathne was born and raised in New Jersey. He attended Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, and received a BS degree in biology, graduating magna cum laude. He was also a member of Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society. He received his MD degree from UMDNJ-New Jersey Medical School in Newark, New Jersey, where he was elected to the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. In 1989 to 1990 he performed his surgical internship at New York University/Bellvue Hospital in New York City. He completed his orthopaedic surgery residency in 1994 at the renowned Hospital for Joint Diseases and Orthopaedic Institute, New York, New York, where in his final year he was Chief Resident and received multiple academic awards. From 1994 to 1995, he performed a fellowship in sports medicine at the University of Colorado in Denver where he provided care for the Division I athletes and college students as well as gaining invaluable experience in arthroscopic reconstructive surgery. Dr. Wathne is board certified in orthopaedic surgery with a current Certificate of Added Qualification in Sports Medicine. He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the Arthroscopy Association of North America, and the Idaho Orthopaedics Society. Matt has been practicing orthopaedics for nearly 20 years as a certified Physician Assistant, and has worked with Dr. Altenburg since 2008. He enjoys taking care of his patients and seeing lives change for the better with total joint replacement surgery.
Matt attended PA school at Idaho State University and graduated in 1998. In his time away from work he enjoys spending time with his family in the great outdoors, and coaching football at a local high school.
Justin Pool, PA-C is an orthopaedic specialized physician assistant with 7 years experience from the Salt Lake City, Utah area. He has experience in total joint arthroplasty, sports injuries, foot/ankle injuries, and generalized orthopaedic care. He has assisted in surgery since becoming a PA.
Justin enjoys playing golf, basketball, water-skiing, and snowmobiling. He is married and has 4 children.
Boe Simmons, PA-C is an orthopaedic specialized physician assistant and has been practicing for over 13 years. He is experienced in sports medicine injuries, including the spine and neck, assists the physicians in surgery, coordinates our “Bumps and Bruises” clinic, and has established his own patient following.
